Usual work parties over the summer, continuing work on West Challow and Childrey.  The work for the permissive footpath at West Challow is nearing completion and I look forward to getting it open later in the autumn.

The July heavy rainfalls caused some challenges with the sheer amount of water running in and through. When will someone wake up to thought that the canal could provide an answer to the continual flooding on the A417 by providing storage over the 7 mile pound in times of heavy rain?

The Dance and Buffet was called off. A week before the time I had not sold enough tickets to make it viable. The response from Dragonfly was virtually nil, and local advertising did not bring in anything. From this I deduce that members were not interested in this kind of fundraising event and will think very hard before I try to organise anything similar in the future.

Finally, you never know what to expect during a presentation. At a recent talk to Grove Horticultural Society I asked for anecdotes and a friend's next door neighbour produced a wonderful card of Wantage Wharf which I had not seen before and talked about childhood walks along the Wantage branch back to Grove.
