Latton Basin

Spring 2007

Spring is in the air.  The rain has stopped ...for the moment ... and over here in the East Vale we continue with the on-going work.

It is good to see the progress at West Challow with the fencing nearly complete, and I hope to be able to announce the opening of the footpath later in the Spring.  A cub-leader of my acquaintance has an entire cub pack ready and waiting to plant more trees and bulbs as soon as we give the word ... so in future years I hope the bank-side will be thick with hedgerow and spring flowers.

Work has also continued at Childrey Wharf. In recent months the East Vale Branch have taken possession of their new excavator and very nice it looks too!

On the publicity front, I have just passed on to the Summer Festival our dates for canal walks. It would be nice to see some faces from more our members so please put the following dates in your diary.

Firstly: Tuesday 12th June.  The usual walk from West Challow to Grove, starting a West Challow village hall 7.30pm

Secondly Tuesday 26th June a new circular walk starting at East Challow Village hall 7.30 pm 1½ hours taking in East Challow, Grove Top Lock, the remains of the Wantage Arm and around historic Wantage.

For further details please call me.
