What has this to do with the Canal??

Frank Sawyer is a grandson of Alfred Howse, the last lock keeper at Latton Basin.
As the Trust archivist I have been fortunate to meet several descendents of Alfred and I have gained much information about the canal and life at the Basin.  As a boy Frank was a frequent visitor to Latton for family get-togethers.  These meetings were no small events.  Alfred and his wife Anne had eight daughters and three sons (so you can imagine how many grandchildren).

Frank Sawyer was a river keeper on the River Avon (Wiltshire), a very famous fly fisherman, an inventor, broadcaster and writer. He was also awarded an MBE in 1978.

This classic book has been out of print for many years.
